Active Release Therapy (ART) at Performance

Overuse injuries are extremely common and can be debilitating, whether from sports, recreational activities, or job-related motions. Active release therapy (ART) is a patented movement-based massage technique that targets soft tissue.

Active Release Therapy and ART-certified therapists are part of Performance Physical Therapy’s comprehensive range of therapies for the treatment of problems related to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves, including:

  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tension headaches
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shin splints
  • Knee problems
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip flexor pain
  • Tennis elbow

Overused muscles and other soft tissues can be compromised by pulls and tears or a lack of oxygen that can lead to the production of tough, dense scar tissue.  Over time, the scar tissue binds up, thereby preventing tissue from moving freely and resulting in reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. Performance’s ART-certified therapists treat abnormal tissues by combining very specific patient movements and precisely directed tension. We like to think of it as the best of art and science.
